Whether you need major dental work, suffer with dental anxiety, or want to receive many dental procedures in the shortest time frame, sedation dentistry poses a comfortable solution. Dr. Kitchen and Dr. Harris offer many types of sedation, including:
Oral Sedation – pre-treatment, anxiety-reducing medication
Oral Conscious Sedation – oral sedation combined with nitrous oxide
IV Sedation – intravenous medication that administered in varying strengths
With oral sedation and oral conscious sedation, the first part of the procedures involves taking an anxiolytic, which is a sedative in pill form. This is enough to produce a calm and rewarding experience in some situations. The next level of sedation is oral conscious sedation. After taking the sedative, we will make you comfortable in the dental chair and administer nitrous oxide to enhance the sedative's effects. Dr. Kitchen and Dr. Harris are certified through DOCS, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. They will monitor your vital signs and maintain your comfort throughout your procedure(s). If you prefer IV sedation, we will be happy to provide it. As the name implies, IV sedation is administered intravenously. We can monitor and adjust the amount of medication delivered throughout our procedure(s).
